Atletico Madrid make United linked Joao Felix available on the transfer market

Atletico Madrid have made Joao Felix available for transfer after a poor start to the season, according to reports in Spain.

Felix has made 16 appearances under Diego Simeone this season, registering two goals and three assists.

The Portuguese forward has been long linked with a transfer to Old Trafford but it has now emerged that Atleti are ready to place Felix ‘on the transfer market’, as per Cadena SER, along with a number of other first-team players — including Thomas Lemar, Yannick Carrasco or Rodrigo De Paul.

The La Liga club finished bottom of their Champions League group — on five points after games against FC Porto, Club Brugge and Bayer Leverkusen. Things are not looking so bleak for Atleti domestically, as they sit third in the league behind leaders Real Madrid and Barcelona — but level on points with fourth-placed Real Betis.

However, the links to United contain snippets of information we are not all that sure about. It includes claims that the Red Devils bid €130m for Felix in the summer.

We don’t need to explain ourselves when we say you can’t believe everything you read – and I find it hard to believe that United were actively pursuing Felix in the summer. I can presume interest existed but a formal offer seems exaggerated, especially when nothing big was made of it by the English press.

The reports adds that United will not offer the same terms next time around.

I highly doubt they offered €130m in the summer, too.
