Real Sociedad manager sets ambitious objective ahead of Manchester United clash

Manchester United go into their final group game in the Europa League against Real Sociedad, who beat us earlier this season, knowing that they need to win by at least two goals in order to top the group.

That would see United avoid going into a play-off round — against teams dropping into the Europa League from the Champions League — and straight into the knockout phases of the tournament.

Manager Erik ten Hag would obviously prefer to escape an extra two-legged affair during a season with so much fixture congestion.

After opening their Europa League campaign with a 1-0 win at Old Trafford, Real Sociedad remain on a win streak, but United need to change that tonight.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo ahead of the match, La Real manager Imanol Alguacil told reporters he wanted his side to hunt for all three points.

“We will do everything possible to be first,” he said, as cited by Football Espana.

We have to play a great game and we have to score a minimum of two goals.

“When the draw came out, we all would have taken getting through; but we have reached the last game winning every game.”

We’re looking forward to the game and confident United can win, although we are struggling to put away our chances this season and that is my only worry tonight.
