Antony issues brilliant response to critics describes showboating as ‘art’

Antony has responded to his critics after showcasing his trademark skill during Manchester United’s clash with Sheriff on Thursday evening.

The Brazilian is known for his trademark ‘AnTOURny’ skill, in which he spins in a circle whilst keeping the ball close to his feet.

He did it last night in front of an adoring Old Trafford crowd but went on to pass the ball out of play, resulting in a Sheriff goal kick. It was met with harsh criticism from Robbie Savage on commentary, deeming the passage of play “embarrassing”.

Former Reds, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves, also ripped into the 22-year-old after the match, with the former saying: “I think he needs a better one [trademark skill], a more entertaining one. Brazil don’t wanna see that do they? Ajax in Holland, do they wanna see that?

“I like to see skill and entertainment but I don’t think that’s skill or entertainment, that’s just… being a clown innit?”

However, the winger has issued the perfect response this afternoon on Instagram. Antony posted a clip of the moment, captioned: “We are known for our art and I won’t stop doing what got me where I am!”

Let players express themselves

Antony is a young, eager and talented forward who is showcasing his talent with every game he plays for United. He netted three crucial goals in his first three appearances and has looked ever-threatening whilst on the pitch.

Erik ten Hag brought him in to play the role Antony did at Ajax; taking on defenders, dribbling through opponents and finding the end product – all of which he’s proved he can do in the Premier League already.

Knocking players’ confidence leads to nothing and criticising five seconds of action, in a game United won 3-0, benefits nobody. Antony will continue to flourish in a red shirt and put on a show for the fans who appreciate his confidence and ability.

  1. Not sure if Scholes was critical of Ronaldo’s 50 step overs in one sequence during his early days with United or the other superfluous actions …

Scholes – Rio – Gary Neville remind of the women on The Housewives of Beverley Hills… in order to remain relevant and as such, retain their roles on the show, they must be provocative… it’s a sad state of affairs..
