Raphael Varane has praised his team for the teamwork showed throughout Manchester United’s 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Frenchman picked up his fourth clean sheet of the season alongside Lisandro Martinez and the two are proving to be worth their weight in gold for Erik ten Hag.
The three points were crucial for United as they look to secure their place in the top four before the World Cup begins in November. They are now one point behind fourth-place Chelsea, who they face on Saturday, and four points behind Spurs having played one less game.
After a dismal start to the season, conceding six goals in their opening two matches, the Reds have started to build momentum at Old Trafford and are showing clear and promising signs of improvement under Ten Hag. They have overturned rivals Liverpool, Spurs and league leaders Arsenal so far and will hope to add Chelsea to the list during Saturday’s game.
Varane happy with team’s performance
When asked by MUTV if United’s performance against Spurs was their best of the season, Varane replied: “Maybe. It was a game where we had a lot of chances. We could score more goals, especially in the first half we created a lot of chances. The pressing was very good and a good tempo, so it was great teamwork tonight.”
On what pleased him the most from the team, he said: “We try to press very high on the pitch and it was a very good performance, I think we cut the connection with the two strikers (Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min) at the heart. Especially, we killed the space in behind the defensive line.”
The defender was also full of praise for his fellow centre-back Martinez, adding: “I enjoy playing with him, he’s a very good player. It’s very good for the defence to keep the clean sheet. It was a teamwork, fantastic.”
