Former Chelsea midfielder urges Manchester United to sell at least 10 players

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley is known for playing devil’s advocate on the ESPN FC podcast. The Scot tends to be very downbeat whenever it comes to discussing Manchester United, so it’s usually best to put it in one ear and out the other.

Craig Burley has named Harry Maguire alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Fred as the first-team stars that he would let go at Manchester United.

Burnley steps it up a notch with his assessment by claiming United need to replace at least 10 players to get to the level we desire.

“Well to get to City’s level they would have to sell,” Burley told ESPN FC, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“I’d get rid of Ronaldo, I’d get rid of [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka, I’d get rid of Shaw, I’d get rid of Maguire. The list is endless. Fred, there’s probably at least 10 they’d have to get rid of and replace to get to that level.”

Stretty News verdict – 10 players is a bit excessive…

I agree with Burley on some of the players he listed, but 10 players is a lot.

Brazil midfielder Fred is a great option to have in the squad. He’s not someone I want to see starting every week, but he brings a lot of energy to the table and can be useful off the bench.

Luke Shaw has his flaws. That said, he isn’t the work back up option to have – so, again, we are talking about someone becoming a squad player. You can’t just sell everyone at once either.

To conclude, I don’t disagree with Burley when it comes to Ronaldo, Wan-Bissaka and Maguire.

Let us know in the comments section who you would sell next summer.
