Preview: Omonia vs Manchester United | Europa League

Manchester United will be looking at getting back to winning ways when they take on Omonia in the Europa League group-stages in Cyprus on Thursday night.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a bitterly disappointing 6-3 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad, whilst the hosts side ran out 2-0 winners over Doxa respectively.

Cristiano Ronaldo is widely expected to start on Thursday night after not featuring at all against Manchester City in the derby last weekend. Anthony Martial is also likely to feature after coming off the bench to score twice against Pep Guardiola’s men on Sunday.

After a positive past 6 weeks or so, United’s good run of form finally came to an end on Sunday. You had hoped the game would be a much closer affair and to see United fold in the way we did particularly in the first half was disappointing to see. United are far off City but it still shouldn’t take away from the fact that the club is moving forwards under Ten Hag and we must not let our heads drop which makes it pivotal United bounce back fast starting on Thursday night against Omonia.

Omonia currently sit rock bottom of the group having lost the opening two games and with the Cyprus side arguably the weakest of the group, this is a game United should undoubtedly expect to win. Even with changes to the starting eleven United should have far too much firepower for the hosts and you would hope United can bounce back and win comfortably here.

The Europa League may not be top of everybody’s wish list this season but it still represents silverware and in doing so guarantees United a place in the UEFA Champions League for next season. United haven’t won a trophy since winning the competition back in 2017 and with the battle for a top four spot again looking increasingly tight its pivotal United take the Europa League seriously this season.

Prediction: Omonia 0-4 Manchester United
