Michael Oliver will referee the Manchester derby this weekend

Michael Oliver has been appointed as referee for the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Manchester United travel to The Etihad looking to make it five wins on the bounce in the Premier League, but the champions stand in their way, and they are stronger than ever before this season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are currently second in the league – one point behind Arsenal and level with Tottenham Hotspur – and they look like the team to beat. Not just this weekend but in the coming years.

With Michael Oliver announced as the referee for this weekend’s derby, as per Simon Stone of the BBC, we have decided to look at Manchester United’s record with him officiating games.

The Red Devils have only managed 15 wins from 39 matches when Oliver was referee. A whopping 13 of those games were defeats, with 11 ending as draws, so what does this mean ahead of the derby?

Nothing really. Oliver was referee when we beat Liverpool this season and we got the result we deserved.

The only thing United can focus on now is their own performance. We shouldn’t worry about decisions that haven’t yet been made before a match.
