Argentina set to ask clubs to rest players before World Cup

Argentina will make an interesting request to ask clubs to rest their players in the week before the World Cup, according to a report.

The tournament will take place for a month and is set to begin on November 20 in Qatar, with the Premier League taking a break midway through the campaign.

Dobale Amarilla claims Argentina will cheekily ask for their players not to be involved in the final game before the World Cup.

Manchester United are among the English clubs that could be affected by the request, but I can’t see Erik ten Hag or other managers agreeing when domestic football takes priority over international football.

Lisandro Martinez will be going to the World Cup, but will Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni think about the fact the defender will be playing Manchester City this weekend when he names his starting eleven to face Jamaica on Thursday?

I doubt it.

The claims have been cited by the Daily Mail and it is suggested that talks are set to be held with the players involved before a decision is made.

Martinez has immediately become a key player at Old Trafford and there is no way we’ll be giving Argentina – or any other nation – special treatment before the World Cup.

United’s aim is to win football matches.
