Antony admits Man United training is different from Ajax

Antony has enjoyed a sparkling start to life at Manchester United after scoring on his debut against Arsenal earlier this month – just 48 hours after his transfer from Ajax was formally completed.

Much has been made of his big-money move from Ajax but the Brazilian wasted no time getting acclimatised to Premier League football.

Erik ten Hag introduced Antony to European football in 2020 when he signed him for Ajax and since then, his development has been staggering.

Speaking prior to this week’s international break, where he is playing for Brazil, Antony admitted that training at United is different from that at Ajax – despite his two stints at both clubs being under the same manager.

“Training is very different but I’d prepared for it mentally,” Antony is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

“I knew how intense it would be as I’ve always followed the Premier League. I knew how intense the games were and have prepared and trained a lot to be at 100 per cent as soon as possible.

“The team are part of an excellent squad so we have got to know each other and established an understanding to reach this level and develop our football. We are getting to know each other better each day, game by game, so that this harmony can flow and it all works out.”

Antony was a second-half substitute in Brazil’s 3-0 win over Ghana earlier this week and he will now be eyeing a permanent place in their starting line-up.

SN’s verdict…
Ten Hag was desperate to sign a left-footed winger to play on the righ-hand-side and you can already see why after three games with Antony on that side.

Antony offers the balance United have lacked and his familiarity with Ten Hag’s system definitely eases the burden on the rest of the team. Furthermore, it looks like he has already struck a promising understanding with right-back Diogo Dalot.

Antony’s time in Manchester is off to a flyer but this is most definitely only the beginning.

  1. Unfortunately, I am.not convinced that Anthony is the answer, mainly because he is one footed.
And so I cannot see him getting to the byline.and crossing the ball.
This is what a winger should be doing.

    1. He’s not a winger that lacks football skills. He’ll play the way he wants to play and not how British pple wants him to play. He’s a Brazilian and Brazilians play their football differently that’s why they’re always the best.

    2. Read more about him or watch his videos on YouTube, he’s definitely not one footed as you claimed…Cheers!

    3. U guys are just too demanding… Nobody can please u guys come on… Even if they got two footed player like u wish … U will still complain he is not quick, not mobile or maybe not strong enough… Be happy with what you got at the moment please

  3. Anthony is really a good player and would be a better man for the club “Manchester United”… With his first Goall for the club against the Rivals, Arsenal who are the top or the table shows how well the player “Anthony” can be

I hope he will be a great signing for the club this summer.

    1. Cody Gakpo is a striker an Antony simply a right winger, their wings or area of specialty doesn’t correlate at all, you get my point now!

    2. U guys don’t complain when english players are playing rubbish but always looking out for other nationality for every minimal opportunity to get at them, it is no longer that martinez is too short to be a center back is not antony don’t cross.

  4. It has been a long while since we had a proper winger. And because those quality crosses and not coming in our striker force have been reasonably weakened. Unfortunately with his huge price tag Sancho or Rashford don’t deliver crosses nor are the wing backs.

  5. Antony is a good player n he has started doing what the club was yenning for since the departure of sir Alex Ferguson nine years ago. He only need little time to use to premier League

  6. Anthony only needs little time to adapt and show us the stuff he is made of. We can’t castigate or judge him now. Let us wait and see want he can deliver till the end of the season.

  7. Anthony is good in his wing ,you guys should understand that England football is quick different from other leagues ,Anthony need little time to prove his stand as professional💯
