Lisandro Martinez wins first Player of the Month award of the season

Manchester United signing Lisandro Martinez, who followed Erik ten Hag from Ajax to Manchester, has won the first Player of the Month award of the season.

The 24-year-old’s performances have been under the microscope since the arrived from the Netherlands and after a difficult start, he has recovered in brilliant fashion to already become one of United’s best players.

Martinez was Man of the Match against both Liverpool and Southampton and despite some pundits continuing to question him, his place in the side is already cemented.

As announced by the official Manchester United website, Martinez won the prize after being nominated alongside fellow defenders Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia.

Martinez’s stellar performances have drawn the attention of supporters worldwide and his stats were compared to Virgil van Dijk earlier in the week. To very little surprise, the Argentine came out on top in every comparison.

SN’s verdict…
It goes without saying but Martinez is thoroughly deserving of this award and should be acknowledged for his performances this month – it’s never easy joining a new league and especially when you’re already under the microscope before a ball has been kicked.

As a left-footed centre-back, Martinez has added balance to the side and that’s something United have lacked for several years. With a starting place in Argentina’s national team still up for grabs, he will be hoping to keep this form up.
