Everton in talks to sign Manchester United starlet James Garner

Talks are underway between Everton and Manchester United over the transfer of James Garner.

Everton appear to have genuine interest in United’s academy graduate, who impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest in their successful push for promotion.

According to The Athletic, Everton have begun talks to sign Garner, but they will face competition from Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City if they are to make any progress on a deal.

Leicester City’s interest would be dependent on outgoings, with United believed to want around £14 million for his signature

Patrick Boyland reports: “Garner appears to be out of United manager Erik ten Hag’s plans for the 2022-23 season, and the Merseyside club have stepped up their interest in the player ahead of the September 1 deadline.”

Why Everton are keen to sign James Garner

Frank Lampard has already signed Amadou Onana in midfield following Fabian Delph’s exit, but it is now thought that the Everton manager wants to bring Garner to Goodison Park since he stands little chance of breaking into the Manchester United line-up this season.

Moreover, Deli Alli is close to joining Turkish side Besiktas.

United could loan Garner out, however, it sounds like they might be trying to raise funds for other transfers by selling him this summer. I don’t think any of us expected that after seeing the 21-year-old perform at such a high standard in the Championship last season.

There’s part of me that wants Garner to stay or go out on loan because I can think of other midfielders at the club that I’d rather show the door to first.

Let us know in the comments section if you think United would be making the right decision by cashing in on Garner now.

    1. It would be foolishness to let him leave period. With the deadwood that to be cleared out they are getting rid of gems that only need to polished in order to shine. That’s why United will not win jack 💩 anytime soon with their frame of thinking and transfer dealings. 🤦🏽‍♂️ Ridiculous.

  1. Selling James Garner now, will be more calamitous than what happened in 2012, when Man utd sold Paul Pogba to Juventus and later went to buy him back at an astronomical price. I suggest the young man should be loaned out instead of outright sale. Same thing applies to Hannibal Mejbri. Both players will rule the world of football in the nearest future.

  2. This will absolutely come back to haunt man united.
    What are they thinking?
Not only was he outstanding for Notts Forest in them securing promotion to the premier league – he also played really well against premier league opposition in the fa cup!
Also, what message does it send to other youngsters that perform well on loan only to be sold out?
Even further, why would potential academy prospects want to come to Man Utd in the future when our brightest prospect (bar garnacho) doesn’t even get a chance for first-team football even after doing everything possible to break into the first team.
It’s not like our midfield is stacked with options anyway!
The lad himself said earlier that ‘he needed regular first team football at this stage of his career and was open to a loan to another premier league side’.
So give him what he wants!
We wouldn’t need to be selling him in the first place if we had done our transfer business EARLY IN THE WINDOW and not paid over the odds by doing deals so late.
The whole stance united took at the beginning of the window that ‘we won’t be doing any deals until de jong signs’ was calamitous and has almost definitely cost us millions of pounds.
Murtough and Arnold are clearly clowns and have proved themselves to be just as bad (if not worse) than Woodward thus far.

  3. Kind of funny how united fans rave on about garner. The club that had him on loan where he apparently was amazing and are now in the premiership aren’t interested. Yet here some people are claiming he’s a world beater cos he had a semi decent season in the championship. A league where mitrovic scored like 45 goals.

Maybe he is very good but I would also love to know how much football these fans have seen of garner or are they just following a certain mr howson who knows comically little about actual football.

United need far better footballers some kid who performed admirably in the second tier. Just cos McTominay is rubbish doesn’t mean we grab the next academy graduate. Note how man city have foden. A truly world class player. If the youth is not goof enough then they don’t play. They get sold. That has to be united. I wonder how many garner fans just a few years ago were saying that McTominay deserved a chance also.
