Cody Gakpo transfer likely if Manchester United star leaves

Manchester United retain their interest PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.

The 23-year-old has been in brilliant form for his Dutch club since the beginning of the 2022/23 season, scoring three goals and registering four assists in six games. He is simply building on his form for PSV last term when he found the back of the net 21 times while helping his teammates with 15 assists.

This is clearly a player with lots of potential, but it looks like his future depends on what happens with Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.

According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, United striking a deal for Gakpo is only seen as likely at this point if Ronaldo leaves Old Trafford.

Delaney reports: “United meanwhile retain an interest in PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo but that deal is only seen likely at this point if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves – something that is entirely dependent on a buyer that is acceptable to the player coming in. As it is, only Sporting have shown concrete interest, and the Portuguese is reluctant to drop back down to the Super Liga at this stage of his career.”

Gakpo and Antony at United?

It sounds like United are prioritising a move for Antony right now but would be open to signing both players if they were to lose their veteran goalscorer.

Gakpo is not only quick but he’s a very good finisher for a winger and could easily transform into a striker at a later stage in his career.

But the real question is who is going to sign Ronaldo?

I can’t see Chelsea or Sporting Lisbon committing to a deal for the 37-year-old.
