(Video) Marcus Rashford reacts to Liverpool win after scoring first goal since January

Manchester United have registered three crucial points on the board with a hard-fought victory against bitter rivals Liverpool. Marcus Rashford, who has been under increasing pressure this year, scored the winning goal.

United were good value for their lead at half-time and it wasn’t long into the second half that Erik ten Hag’s side doubled their lead through a perfect finish from Rashford.

The strike was Rashford’s first goal in all competitions since scoring the winner against West Ham in January this year – what a time to end that drought!

The 24-year-old has now delivered his verdict on the game alongside Jadon Sancho, who opened the scoring in the first half.

“It’s obviously a massive game for the club,” Rashford told Football Daily after firing United to victory. “I’ve always said regardless of the circumstances that you’re in, the games against Liverpool is massive, no matter what circumstances you’re in.

“To get the win today is massive and you know, like Jadon said, we’ve not done so well starting of the season so it’s good to pick up the first win.”

When quizzed on what the difference was between United’s opening two games and Monday night’s tenacious performance, Rashford admitted that the energy levels were higher.

“To be honest, I think just energy,” he said. “We started the game at a higher tempo. We were tired towards the end but we kept going and we just stuck at it. They got a goal back and we didn’t fold. We kept defending well and it was an enjoyable game to play in.”
