(Video) Gary Neville admits he was ‘stunned’ by Man Utd’s win over Liverpool

After comfortably losing both of their opening games in the Premier League, Manchester United have rolled Liverpool over to earn three crucial points under Erik ten Hag.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring early in the first half and Ten Hag’s men were cruising for large parts of the game. Rashford doubled United’s lead after the interval and a late scare aside, the Reds were fairly comfortable throughout.

Gary Neville was at his nippy best as Sky Sports broadcasted the storied fixture and after the game, he admitted that he was ‘stunned’ by United’s win over their bitter rivals amid their disastrous start to the campaign.

“I’m absolutely stunned, to be honest with you,” Neville told Football Daily, as seen above. “I didn’t think that was possible tonight what I saw in terms of response. Because I thought that the players had sort of cemented what they do week in and week out over many months at the end of last season, the start of this season.

“So what has happened this week? I don’t know but they responded. Maybe the slight changes in personnel, making brave decisions. Obviously, the captain (and) the star player have both been left on the bench, which means the manager just gains a bit of gravitas, maybe, with the other players.

“I think Bruno has responded. I think obviously, Martinez at the back has played well alongside Varane. I don’t know what it is but I can’t believe what I’ve just witnessed.

“Liverpool weren’t at their best, let’s be really clear, they weren’t at their best against Crystal Palace and Fulham. But it was just the effort difference that we saw from Manchester United. They’ve outrun Liverpool, they out sprinted Liverpool and we’ve questioned that a number of times on this show over the last 12 months that they’re not capable of doing it. And they showed tonight they are capable of doing it.”

United will now aim to make it back-to-back wins in the league as they travel to Southampton next week in what is another must-win game for Ten Hag.
