Confirmed Manchester United XI vs Liverpool: Rashford to lead attack with Ronaldo benched

Manchester United and Liverpool are looking for their first win of the season tonight.

For the Red Devils, we’ve lost against Brighton & Hove Albion as well as Brentford, while Liverpool have drawn against Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Both teams know that’s not good enough, but Liverpool still go into tonight’s game as favourites.

Erik ten Hag has named his starting line-up as United look to get on track for the 2022/23 season.

David de Gea starts between the posts.

Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia will operate down the flanks from their preferred full-back roles, while Raphael Varane partners Lisandro Martinez in defence.

In midfield we’ll see Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay form a duo behind a trio of Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga.

Up front, it looks like Marcus Rashford will lead the line instead of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese will be sat on the bench along with Anthony Martial.

The previous game against Brentford ended abysmally at a 4-0 scoreline, with shocking goalkeeping on display from De Gea.

Meanwhile, Liverpool scrapped together draws in their previous games and have lacked their ruthless edge after losing Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich. New signing Darwin Nunez is suspended for the match.

Other than Nunez, Liverpool are without Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
