Manchester United to send delegation to make final push for De Jong

Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona is still up in the air.

According to Diario Sport, Manchester United have not given up on the Barcelona midfielder. It is expected that a delegation from the club will travel to Spain to make a final push for the Netherlands international.

This comes as a surprise with United set to officially announce Casemiro as their fourth signing of the summer, but De Jong would still be a very welcome addition to Erik ten Hag’s midfield.

De Jong started for Barcelona against Real Sociedad on Sunday night. They won 4-1 but the United target was at fault for La Real’s equalise early in the first half after replacing the suspended Sergio Busquets in the line-up.

Meanwhile, other reports from Spain suggest Chelsea are now out of the race to sign De Jong, meaning we could be his only option out of Barcelona.

SN’s verdict

This feels like one that has dragged on for far too long.

It’s probably a lot more likely that he will stay at Barcelona this season – but will be remain in the starting XI when Busquets returns? That’s another question.

Why not come to United and join forces with Casemiro? It has been a long time since we had the best midfield in the Premier League.
