Manchester United linked with move for Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas

Manchester United are being linked with a move for Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas.

According to Cope, negotiations are ongoing between United and Espanyol over the player’s future, with the Red Devils actively seeking a new striker in the market.

It is reported that Raul de Tomas could cost somewhere in the region of £21-25 million.

That isn’t a lot for a striker nowadays but it’s not like we’re talking about one of the best goalscorers in Europe.

United are scanning through the market to see what is left rather than using their scouting department to identify the right players.

Raul de Tomas will be among United’s options if anything because there is nothing to suggest yet that we are serious enough to make a bid for the player. After coming through Real Madrid’s academy, he had a brief spell at Benfica before joining Espanyol in 2020.

The 27-year-old scored 17 goals in 34 La Liga games for Espanyol last season and he currently has 5 caps for the Spain national team, with an outside chance of making Luis Enrique’s squad for the World Cup.

It’s a shame that instead of going for the likes of Erling Haaland, we are in the market for a second-rate striker. That’s how I see it.
