(Video) Man Utd star says he cost the team three points against Brentford

David de Gea was in the headlines again on Saturday evening as Manchester United fell to a shocking four-goal defeat at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The 31-year-old was at fault for Brentford’s early opener and gifted them a two-goal cushion just minutes later when his pass was intercepted.

Speaking after the game, De Gea delivered a candid interview where he admitted to costing his side three points, as seen below.

“Just to take my responsibility today,” De Gea told Football Daily when asked why he wanted to speak after the game. “I think I cost three points to my team today, to be honest.

“It was a poor performance from myself. Of course, after the first mistake and the second, it was very tough for the team to keep playing. It was a horrible day.”

It’s become a recurring theme in the past couple of years that whenever United are heavily beaten, De Gea is the player to address the media.

For many of those defeats, he has been the only player keeping the numbers down but it can’t be denied that the Spaniard, who is entering his 12th year at United, was at the heart of the mistakes.
