Chelsea ready to meet Barcelona’s demands for De Jong transfer

Chelsea are ready to meet Barcelona’s demands for Frenkie de Jong, which is something Manchester United did back in July – without managing to conclude the deal.

De Jong joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 after making a name for himself in that thrilling Ajax team that reached the Champions League semi-finals. After failing to truly establish himself at Barcelona, he could now reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, unless Chelsea stand in the way or new terms can be agreed at Camp Nou.

Fabrizio Romano reveals in his latest Caught Offside newsletter that Chelsea think they can convince De Jong to join them this summer.

As things stand, De Jong is sticking to his guns by saying he wants to stay at Barcelona. Poor treatment from Barca fans may change his perspective, although poor treatment from the club over the summer clearly hasn’t left a mark.

If he does leave Camp Nou, Chelsea hope he is only willing to join another club in the Champions League, which could prove to be a sucker blow for United.

Do you think De Jong will choose Chelsea or United?
