De Jong has Chelsea and Manchester United to pick between

Another day, another angle to take on Frenkie de Jong.

In his recent Caught Offside newsletter, Fabrizio Romano claims that Chelsea are prepared to pay whatever it takes to sign Frenkie de Jong this summer.

Chelsea are making it clear – in the public, at least – that they are doing all they can to gazzump United’s bid to sign the Netherlands midfielder.

Romano adds that the decision is up to the player himself – Chelsea or United?

United will continue with their pursuit of De Jong until it’s over – but he knows their interest has been serious for some time.

On the other hand, Chelsea have yet to reach an agreement with Barcelona.

Maybe they are waiting to see if Barcelona pay De Jong the €17m he is owed in deferred wages? That might have been a wise decision from United – but one they clearly passed on.
