Man United vs Brighton confirmed lineups: No Ronaldo but two new signings start

Manchester United have welcomed Graham Potter’s Brighton and Hove Albion to Old Trafford for what will be the Red Devils’ opening Premier League tie of the new 2022-23 season.

Desperate to right the wrongs of last season, new manager Erik ten Hag will know that if he is to put himself and his squad in the best possible position to improve on their standing from last season, he must secure a win on his competitive debut.

Speaking in his pre-match programme notes before the game, the 52-year-old warned there are no guaranteed starters and that he is willing to give any player, regardless of age or reputation, a chance to impress, and he has backed that statement up by thrusting two new signings straight into the action.

Ahead of the important fixture, which is set to be played on a picturesque Old Trafford backdrop, ten Hag has named his starting 11.

Goalkeeper David De Gea will take up his familiar position in between the sticks and will be accompanied by a back four featuring Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, captain Harry Maguire and new signing Lisandro Martinez.

In midfield, ten Hag has opted to go with a four consisting of Fred, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and second new signing Christian Eriksen, and in attack, fans will get their first look of the new season at how English duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho combine.
