Ten Hag considers reunion with Ziyech despite underwhelming Chelsea spell

Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on signing Hakim Ziyech.

The Chelsea winger played under Ten Hag at Ajax between 2017 and 2020 during a successful period for the Eredivisie club. During his time in Amsterdam, Ziyech was part of a side that won a domestic double in 2018-19, while also reaching the Champions League semi-finals that year.

However, Ziyech got his ‘big move’ from Ajax two years ago when he joined Chelsea, where he has been restricted to just 29 league starts in his two full seasons at Stamford Bridge.

Ziyech joined Chelsea in a £33.3m deal rising to £36.6m, as per BBC Sport.

According to French journalist Nabil Djellit, Ten Hag wants to sign Ziyech this summer to bolster his attacking options.

It was suggested in a Daily Mail article last month that Chelsea would be willing to sell the 29-year-old for only £8m, which is a very low fee for a player that has so much ability to cause problems in the final third.

United have also been heavily linked with Ajax’s Antony, who became Ajax’s threat on the right flank after Ziyech’s exit, but it looks like the Brazil international has been priced out of a move to the Premier League this summer.

Ziyech has struggled to live up to his price tag at Chelsea, scoring 14 goals and providing 10 assists in 83 matches, but maybe Ten Hag believes he can get more out of him.
