After an impressive pre-season tour, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is set to miss the opening game of the season against Brighton due to an injury.
According to The Athletic, Martial suffered a minor hamstring problem and the timing of his return is unclear now, although there is hope he will be in the frame to play against Brentford on August 13.
Laurie Whitwell and Pol Ballus report: “He [Martial] left the pitch in Oslo – where United played Atletico Madrid in pre-season – holding his leg.”
There is no denying that this will come as a blow to United.
Not only has Martial been brilliant in the pre-season matches this summer, Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t have enough minutes in the tank to start a competitive match this weekend, and I totally agree with Ten Hag that the 37-year-old’s behaviour was unacceptable at the Rayo Vallecano game.
We could see Marcus Rashford play as a central striker, instead of coming in from a wide position, or maybe there will be a chance for Alejandro Garnacho?
The report also states that Ten Hag has been boosted by the return of Jadon Sancho from illness which is fantastic news for Sunday.
