Report in Spain suggests Barcelona will tell De Jong to leave

Barcelona’s desire to sell Frenkie de Jong has been well documented this summer.

Even though Barcelona president Joan Laporta claims they want De Jong to stay, I don’t think anyone really listens to what he says in the public domain.

According to a new report from El Larguero, Barca will tell De Jong to leave the club as his exit must be accelerated to avoid problems of La Liga registering signings.

The tweet above translated via Twitter: “Barça will clearly tell Frenkie de Jong to leave the club. The exit operation in the club must be accelerated to avoid problems of La Liga registering signings. Braithwaite, Neto and Riqui Puig must look for a destination soon.”

That would suggest we will see movement in the coming days – once Xavi and his squad return from their pre-season tour of the United States. They take on New York Red Bulls before flying back home as we approach the start of the 2022/23 season.

De Jong features in the starting XI – back in midfielder rather than centre-back.

Barcelona XI vs New York Red Bulls: Ter Stegen; Araujo, Christensen, Eric, Alba; De Jong, Busquets, Gavi; Raphina, Lewandowski, Dembele (4-3-3).

United will need to decide on a deadline of their own to get this deal over the line. We can’t let this drag on to a point that makes it impossible to find a highly rated alternative.

The problem with De Jong is there aren’t many like him out there.

It makes sense for him to move given how Barcelona have treated him this summer.

Time to find a solution.
