Ten Hag reacts to Eriksen’s 20-minute cameo against Atletico Madrid

Christian Eriksen made his debut for Manchester United against Atletico Madrid.

Although the game ended in a 1-0 defeat with Atleti scoring late in the second half, the team put in a decent performance against a decent side, and these games are purely about players getting minutes and gaining fitness ahead of the new season.

The midfielder created several goalscoring opportunities after coming on in the second half. Unfortunately, none of our players could put them away. His driven cross just missed Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga.

On top of that, in his 20-minute cameo, Eriksen took a corner that Harry Maguire should’ve really finished with a header on goal.

“We know what he is able to do,” Erik ten Hag told MUTV when asked about Eriksen before backing the Dane to provide United’s forwards with the ammunition to score goals this season, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“I think with our front men he can give them the right passes in the right moment. He will create chances but then it is about finishing.”

The creativity was there today – but United lacked a lethal goalscorer in the front three.

Jadon Sancho is not a lethal goalscorer but his absence was felt in the final third.

It will be interesting to see if Eriksen gets more minutes tomorrow against Rayo Vallecano.
