(Video) Fabrizio Romano claims United have ‘concrete’ interest in Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko is the latest striker to be linked with a move to Manchester United.

United fans will be excited by the prospect of signing the 19-year-old goalscorer, who scored a winner against Liverpool in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.

The RB Salzburg starlet has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks but Erik ten Hag could ask United to join the race for his signature if Cristiano Ronaldo before transfer deadline day.

Sesko has been compared to Erling Haaland and United fans will be hoping to see the club pounce for the next best striker to emerge on the European stage.

Now Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has given the latest update on United’s interest.

“As I said a few days ago, Manchester United have a concrete interest in Sesko”, Romano said on his YouTube channel. “United have had direct contact with the player’s agent and he is one of the players they are considering.

“The problem is, on Sesko’s side, is Red Bull Salzburg’s stance has always been very clear. Many clubs, not just United, have approached Salzburg and their answer has been that they want to sell Sesko in the summer of 2023.

“So United will need a massive bid if they want to sign Sesko immediately because Salzburg wish to keep him for one more season and sell him next summer.

“Not an easy situation, but Sesko is still a player that United are considering alongside many others.”

SN’s verdict

United need to sign a new centre forward if Ronaldo decides to force a move away.

Although Anthony Martial impressed on pre-season, it would be madness to rely on him solely for the upcoming season. Not only because he has yet to show the level of consistency we need to see at United, but at the moment one injury to one of our attacking players could create problems for Erik ten Hag.

Hopefully the Ronaldo situation is solved soon.
