Manchester United’s Alvaro Fernandez has been spotted at Deepdale ahead of Preston North End’s pre-season friendly against Leicester City.

The 19-year-old didn’t go on tour with the first team this because plans were already in place for him to move on loan next season.

Fernandez was named U23s Player of the Year last season and had plenty of interest from up and down the Championship – as well as several clubs across Europe.

Preston North End reporter George Hodgson took to Twitter after Fernandez was spotted at Deepdale today, as seen in the photo below:

Hodgson tweeted: “Not at the match today as on a stag do. Looks like Man United’s Alvaro Fernandez (LWB), linked with PNE and believed to be a target, is at Deepdale watching.”

A move to the Championship could be exactly what Fernandez needs to kick on.

It is believed that if he were to join Preston, the young Spaniard would suit their back three defensive system.
