Lisandro Martinez to join United’s pre-season tour in Australia

Lisandro Martinez is closing in on his transfer to Manchester United.

It is understood the Argentine turned down a summer move to Arsenal, ultimately opting to join Manchester United in his quest to become a Premier League player.

Martinez will reunite with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford after enjoying a lot of success together at Ajax.

According to The Athletic, everything has been agreed and United are hoping he can join them on the pre-season tour in Australia.

There are currently 30 players on tour following Axel Tuanzebe’s departure from the squad, but there has been suggestions that Will Fish could be called up.

This comes after chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough travelled to Amsterdam to agree a deal, with help from Ajax CEO and former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims Martinez did not train with Ajax on Thursday.

The next move will be to announce the deal – and I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened before the weekend.

United take on Melbourne Victory on Friday but that shouldn’t stop the club announcing a new signing, especially when fans are eager to see new signings!

Martinez could shake things up in defence because Raphael Varane or Harry Maguire could be set to lose their place in the team.

Only time will tell who Ten Hag selects as his preferred centre-back pairing or if he will opt for a back three.
