West Ham have failed to hijack Manchester United’s move for Tyrell Malacia, according to reports.

It has been reported by leading transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano that West Ham tried to hijack United’s deal for the Feyenoord left-back, who looks set to become one of Erik ten Hag’s first signings at Old Trafford.

Romano claims United will pay £15m upfront as well as £2m in add-ons.

Moreover, Malacia’s agents have been in contact with United all summer because they also represent Frenkie de Jong. I wonder how West Ham got the impression he’d rather go there than Old Trafford?

Romano adds that a deal with Barcelona for De Jong is progressing well.

There was a further hint this morning that Malacia has made his final decision ahead of next season, The Athletic suggesting that Lyon had pulled out of the race to sign him after advances were made with United.

Luke Shaw will have competition next season which hopefully means he can be dropped if his bad form continues.

My guess is Ten Hag already knows he can’t trust Alex Telles to play as many games he started last term.
