Manchester United target Antony misses Ajax training

Ajax winger Antony was a noticeable absentee from the club’s first training session back for pre-season on Friday.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who continue to link Antony as a prime target for United this summer.

The 22-year-old has emerged has one of Erik ten Hag’s leading targets but United have yet to make any signings in the transfer market. Much to the frustration of fans, there’s a real possibility that no new signings will be at Carrington for training on Monday.

Surely, that wasn’t part of the plan when Ten Hag got the job?

Alfred Schreuder, who replaced Ten Hag at Ajax, has affirmed that he is keen to keep Antony at the club.

“We want to keep Antony at Ajax. He has a contract until 2025. I want to work with him, and the club knows this,” Schreuder told ESPN.

However, questions will be asked again as the former Sao Paulo star did not report for pre-season training on Friday.

The reason for Antony’s absence is currently unknown but we hope that United are working on multiple deals in the background and not just Frenkie de Jong.

Antony became a star in Ten Hag’s Ajax side following his 2020 switch to Europe.

The Brazil international has scored 22 goals and set up 20 more in 78 outings for the club.

He could be the right winger we’ve been crying out for.
