There is hope among Manchester United supporters that a breakthrough in negotiations for Frenkie de Jong will be made soon, with the midfielder believed to be the club’s number one target this summer.
Erik ten Hag, the new manager, is desperate to improve his side’s midfield and De Jong has been identified as the prime target to do so.
United are believed to have seen their initial bid for De Jong rejected but are readying an improved offer, with the club holding out hope that the revised proposal will see them secure their target.
Now, journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation, claiming that although a new bid is yet to be submitted, United are ready with a fresh proposal soon.

Furthermore, in another boost to the Old Trafford club’s hopes of landing De Jong, Romano claims that talks between United and Barcelona over the midfielders have entered ‘key stages’.
And although Antony, the tricky Ajax winger, has been discussed internally, getting a deal over the line for De Jong is thought to be the club’s full focus.
SN’s verdict…
Ten Hag’s first pre-season in charge officially begins on Monday and he’ll be disappointed not to have made any signings by now. Although De Jong would not have been a part of the first group back regardless, it’s always better to have clarity before preparations begin.
Players who have taken part in international fixtures will return to the club in the second week of July and hopefully, De Jong will be part of that group instead.
United have only three senior midfielders remaining at the club and adding De Jong would instantly improve the team.
what a nice idea
