Manchester United insider explains reported interest in Germany left-back

Germany international David Raum recently refused to rule out the prospect of leaving Hoffenheim, which has led to reported interest from Manchester United – should Erik ten Hag opt to sign a left-back this summer.

“Of course you think about it,” Raum told Sport1 last month, addressing reports linking him with a switch to Borussia Dortmund. “Naturally, I would have liked to have played on the international stage with Hoffenheim. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. That continues to be a dream for me.”

According to German newspaper Bild, United have joined the race to sign the attack-minded full-back, who would seemingly fit into Ten Hag’s preferred style of play which was heavily influenced by full-backs during his successful spell at Ajax.

Meanwhile, United insider and friend of Stretty News, Jonathan Shrager, has tweeted an update on the club’s apparent interest in Raum.

Shrager claims Tottenham, Manchester City, Dortmund and United have all expressed an interest in the left-back. His impression of United’s enquiry is that it was only an initial conversation, like they have with many players they don’t end up signing.

On top of that, no offer has been made.

Only time will tell how Luke Shaw deals with that. I genuinely worry for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles, whereas I don’t hold much hope for Diogo Dalot either.

I’m not saying all of these players will get the chop this summer because that would be madness, but over the coming years I hope to see better set of attacking full-backs at Old Trafford.

Is Raum the answer? Well, the 24-year-old made a name for himself in his first season at Hoffenheim last term, registering an impressive 16 direct goal contributions.
