Fabrizio Romano confirms Man Utd are in talks over £20m star

Manchester United are set for yet another busy summer as Erik ten Hag eyes becoming the first successful manager at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

The Dutchman will have his hands full over the coming months and in terms of recruitment, the focus has largely been on securing midfield reinforcements.

Several senior figures have already left the club, with Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Lee Grant, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata all leaving on free transfers.

Further exits are, however, expected and recent reports suggest that newly promoted Nottingham Forest have opened talks with United over a deal to sign Dean Henderson.

That’s according to journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who adds that the deal is likely to be a loan with an option to buy for £20m.

As per the report, negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing and the player is believed to be considering the possibility of joining Forest.

SN’s verdict…
Dean Henderson ended the 2020/21 campaign under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the Norwegian’s first choice between the goalposts but since then, injuries have hampered his progression.

David de Gea’s stocks remain high and despite the Spaniard having just one year remaining on his current deal, it’s unlikely that Henderson will be able to challenge for that number one spot.

An exit seems like the perfect solution for all parties and if Henderson’s loan spell at Sheffield United is anything to go by, Forest will be eager to exercise their option to buy in 12 months’ time.
