Nemanja Matic set to join AS Roma on a free transfer

The reunion everyone expected this summer looks set to be announced as Nemanja Matic edges closer to signing for Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, as cited by Fabrizio Romano, Matic is set too join Roma on a free transfer.

Romano tweeted: “Nemanja Matic’s set to join AS Roma on a free transfer, as per @DiMarzio. Deal set to be completed after his official decision to leave Man Utd.

“Matic will be AS Roma’s second signing after Mile Svilar — both are joining as free agents.”

The Serbian midfielder recently announced he would be leaving Manchester United in the summer, but it sounds like a deal is in place that will see Matic become one of Mourinho’s players for a third time.

Mourinho previously worked with Matic at Chelsea and United, so it goes without saying that he has a lot of trust in the player. The aim will be to finish stronger in the league next season, with Ajax finishing sixth in the table this term.

Matic will be joining the Europa Conference League winners and he isn’t the only former United player at the club, with Chris Smalling featuring regularly in defence.

We wish him the very best.
