There is no denying that Bruno Fernandes has not been as prolific this season, but in a team of underperforming players, the Portuguese Magnificio has continued to carve out openings for his colleagues with a fearless approach in midfield.

The statistics come from Opta (via @OptaAnalyst) and they show that Fernandes is always looking to find his team-mates in goalscoring positions.

Going into the final game of the season this weekend against Crystal Palace, Fernandes tops the list for open-play chance creation as well as the overall tally when secondary chances are added to the mix.

Fernandes’ figure of 109 beats second-place Martin Odegaard (102) from Arsenal, while Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Mohamed Salah of Liverpool are closely behind in the rankings.

These players will be given a chance to increase their tally this weekend but it would take something special for the United star to be beaten at this stage.

However, Fernandes and Odegaard are the only two players in the Premier League on three figures for chances created this season.

We are hoping that he has more chances left in the tank to help ensure United book their place in the Europa League for next season. Otherwise, if results go against us this weekend, we’ll end up in the Europa Conference League.

Top 5 chance creators in the Premier League 2021/22

1. Bruno Fernandes – 109
2. Martin Odegaard – 102
3. Bernardo Silva – 99
4. Mohamed Salah – 93
5. Kevin De Bruyne – 92

So, while it has not been Fernandes’ best season in front of goal, he has still created an array of chances to help United win football matches.

Hopefully we can score more goals next season!
