Cristiano Ronaldo breaks another record after Player of the Month award

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken yet another record in a historic season for the 37-year-old. Manchester United have endured a disastrous campaign on the pitch but Ronaldo’s scoring has shown no signs of slowing up.

The Portugal international enjoyed a brilliant start to life back at United earlier this season and took home the Player of the Month award for September. That feat has now been repeated, with his five goals enough to fend off competition from Kevin De Bruyne, Thiago Alcantara, Son Heung-min and others.

It’s the sixth time he wins the award, setting a new record for a Manchester United player. He was previously level with Wayne Rooney, who has won the award five times, according to Opta.

Ronaldo has just one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and it remains to be seen whether he sticks around to fulfill the two-year deal he signed last summer.

Erik ten Hag is set to take over at the end of this season and although United are in desperate need of wholesale changes, losing the club’s star man and top scorer would be a blow for Ten Hag.

Ronaldo has scored six out of United’s last eight goals so his importance to this side should not be underestimated. One thing’s for sure – he’s certainly a part of the solution and not the problem.
