Manchester City consider signing Paul Pogba on free

Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Paul Pogba on a free this summer when his Manchester United contract expires.

This is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Pep Guardiola wants to add a new versatile central midfielder ahead of next season. The midfielder in question may be tasked with replacing captain Fernandinho, who could also be about to run down his current deal.

Manchester City are on course to win the Premier League, but they were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid this week. Guardiola will be hoping that this summer’s signings will take City closer to Europe’s biggest prize.

Signing Pogba would be a statement, one that would slap United right into the face, although the club only has itself to blame for not cashing in last summer.

It may come as a kick in the teeth to United fans that Pogba could jump ship for City. That would be one way to look at his potential exit because as things stand, I wouldn’t miss him in a United shirt.

The 29-year-old currently earns £290,000-per-week at United and he will be looking for a bigger salary at his next club.

This would be a huge story should it happen.
