Juan Mata eyes La Liga return once United contract expires

Juan Mata made his first start of the campaign in Manchester United’s last home game of the season on Monday night. The midfielder waved at supporters to bid farewell after spending 8-years at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have decided to let Mata’s contract run down and he will become a free agent on June 30th.

Sport in Spain claim Mata has emerged as a transfer target for La Liga trio Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Valencia.

The three clubs have apparently sounded the 35-year-old out about a potential move in the summer, with all chasing parties considered ‘attentive’ of his current situation.

You would think that Mata will have offers from the MLS, too, but the Spanish newspaper adds that Mata has ‘always had in his mind’ to return to his country, when he first moved to England in 2011 (Valencia to Chelsea).

Real Betis and Real Sociedad can offer European football next season. That is something Valencia have missed out on.

We wish Mata the very best wherever he ends up!
