Manchester United injury list grows with Harry Maguire set to miss Chelsea clash

Manchester United have a lot of players out for Thursday night’s match against Chelsea.

Speaking at his press conference this afternoon, interim manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed that several players will be missing.

Paul Pogba, Fred, Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw were already ruled out but now Rangnick says Harry Maguire and Jadon Sancho won’t be available either. On top of that, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a doubt.

Simon Peach attended the press conference before tweeting Rangnick’s team update:

Rangnick’s quotes via Manchester Evening News

“Fred is unfortunately not yet available, he tried to train yesterday and afterwards I had a conversation with him and with a player like Fred it doesn’t make sense with a muscular injury to play him too early as we would take the risk of re-injury. Apart from that, Harry Maguire is not available tomorrow, he has some issues with his knee. He didn’t train yesterday and today. Paul obviously, Fred, Luke Shaw, Jadon is ill – he has had tonsillitis since yesterday, couldn’t train today and won’t be available tomorrow. We will try to play the best possible team, right now we have 14 in our professional team and the youngsters available and three or four players will be part of the squad.”

We would like to see Rangnick to use this as an opportunity to player some of the younger lads. Hannibal Mejbri got some minutes off the bench against Liverpool and showed that he isn’t afraid to tackle his opponents.

United have had a hugely disappointing season and it’s time to say goodbye to those who have expiring contracts.

Harry Maguire was dropped against Arsenal but Rangnick said a knee injury will get him out of this game.
