De Gea can’t put his finger on what’s going wrong at Manchester United

David de Gea feels that someone has puta curse on Manchester United given their ongoing struggles, and that he doesn’t know why they haven’t won more trophies post Sir Alex Ferguson.

Since joining United in 2011, the goalkeeper has one Premier League title to show for it.

De Gea can’t quite put his finger on what is going wrong.

In an interview with El Pais, De Gea said: “I think someone has put a curse on us or something.

“The truth is I don’t know what’s going on, I really don’t.

“People always ask me and we talk about it as team-mates and we just say ‘we don’t know what’s happening’.

“We should have competed for more trophies, bigger titles, but I just don’t know why this team doesn’t function.”

Perhaps it’s a big sign that this team isn’t good enough if they still can’t find answers to their problems. It has functioned poorly all season long and we’ve come up short, year after year, since Ferguson’s retirement.

I’m sure everyone was buzzing within the club when Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined in the summer, but a 37-year-old is not going to single-handedly deliver trophies. He may contribute – like he did in the group stages of the Champions League – but the overall team performance needs to improve.

De Gea still believes Ronaldo can drive improvements through the force of his personality and being a winner.

He added: “Even just seeing him walk through the door gives you a desire to show you’re at his level.

“He works so hard and is very demanding of himself.

“I think he’s a bit calmer than before, but he is a machine.

“That’s good for all the lads to see, because it shows how you need to look after yourself to have many years at the top level.”
