FA chiefs demand explanation from Wayne Rooney over claims he tried to injure John Terry

The FA want Wayne Rooney to explain claims that he wanted to injure John Terry, according to reports.

The Sun claims FA chiefs are demanding an explanation from Rooney over his recent comments.

This comes after the Manchester United legend said he changed his studs for the clash at Chelsea in April 2006 to ‘hurt someone’, with the victim clearly being Terry.

In an interview with the Mail, the Derby County manager spoke about his intentions after successfully hurting Terry, leaving his sock sainted with blood. The former Chelsea captain played on as they beat United 3-0 at Stamford Bridge that day.

Rooney said: “We knew if Chelsea won then they had won the league that day.

“Until my last game for Derby, I always wore the old plastic studs with the metal tip.

“For that game I changed them to big, long metal ones – the maximum length you could have because I wanted to try and hurt someone, try and injure someone.

“I knew they were going to win that game. You could feel they were a better team at the time so I changed my studs.

“The studs were legal but thinking if there’s a challenge there I knew I’d want to go in for it properly, basically. I did actually.

“John Terry left the stadium on crutches. I left a hole in his foot and then I signed my shirt to him after the game.

“A few weeks later I sent it to him and asked for my stud back.

“If you look back when they were celebrating, JT’s got his crutches from that tackle.”

Terry has since took to Twitter to joke about the incident.

Rooney was always a fiery character but I find it laughable that the FA want an explanation from the striker so many years after the incident happened. What are they going to do? Give him a three-game suspension from Premier League matches?

Terry never held back from a tackle and neither did Rooney. From a referee’s perspective, they were as bad as one another.
