Newcastle United working to sign Jesse Lingard on loan

Newcastle United want to sign Jesse Lingard on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Manchester United midfielder would disappoint a large portion of West Ham fans if he joined another Premier League club on loan for the remainder of the season, but reports suggest Newcastle are making moves to sign the England international.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Magpies are willing to cover Lingard’s £100,000-a-week wages for the rest of his United contract, which is set to expire at the end of the season.

They could then sign the midfield ace on a Bosman because he will be a free agent, and that would potentially open the door to a hefty pay rise at St James’ Park.

According to The Sun, Newcastle have plans to make Lingard their higher earner.

The MEN add that Lingard is yet to commit to the move and is believed to favour a return to London.

West Ham are bound to be interested if Lingard leaves United this month, so we could see more competition for Lingard’s signature this month. He scored nine goals and managed five assists in just 16 appearances for the Hammers last term.

Lingard was not involved in United’s last matchday squad against Aston Villa.
