Manchester United co-chairman Avram Glazer acquires T20 cricket team in UAE

of Manchester United during a training session at Carrington Training Ground on March 4, 2013 in Manchester, England.

Avram Glazer is making use of those dividends he and his siblings have drained out of Manchester United since their controversial takeover in 2005.

It has been announced that the Manchester United co-chairman has bought a franchise for a new T20 professional league in the United Arab Emirates.

The UAE T20 League is a new six-team competition led by the Emirates Cricket Board and it is due to begin in February 2022.

Avram Glazer, who doesn’t do a lot of talking, said (via Manchester Evening News): “I am very excited to be a part of UAE T20 at its formation. UAE T20 promises to be a world-class event that will be transformative to the growth of cricket in the Emirates.”

However, no name has been given for the franchise as they’ve yet to be announced, so it will be intriguing to see what they come up with…

Cash Wickets, Swing For Dollars or Batting Dividends?

The only reason the Glazers dived into sport was to make money, though the coverage they receive in the United States is very different to the press they get in Europe.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently won the Super Bowl for a second time with the Glazers as their owners.

Now they’re testing the cricket market.
