Jadon Sancho delighted with first Manchester United goal

It was great to see Jadon Sancho perform so well against Villarreal after struggling for form since his mega money switch from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United.

Caretaker manager Michael Carrick decided to give him a rare start against the Spanish side and he was arguably United’s best attacking player on the pitch.

At the very end, Sancho opened his goalscoring account for the club and he has quickly took to Twitter to react to the “proud” moment, saying: “Proud to score my first goal for @ManUtd in the best competition in world football @Champions League! Great team effort from the boys tonight, we build from this.”

That message was echoed after the match by captain Harry Maguire, who will also want to build on tonight’s defensive display, with United keeping a clean sheet.

United fans will hope Sancho can build on his own performance because it looked like the team should’ve been trying to get the ball wide to him more often. The tidy winger made life difficult for Villarreal and showed exactly why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed him.

With United booking their place in the latter stages of the Champions League, Sancho will hope the next manager gives him the opportunities needed to develop and grow into this United side.
