(Video) Michael Carrick takes first training at Manchester United

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by Manchester United following last weekend’s defeat to Watford, leaving former midfielder Michael Carrick to temporarily take over as caretaker manager.

Carrick, who has been a part of the coaching setup at Manchester United since he retired in 2018, will be in charge until an interim manager is appointed.

Manchester United are back in Champions League action on Tuesday evening as they make the trip to Villarreal – Unai Emery’s side are level on points with United ahead of the penultimate group game.

A draw against the Spanish outfit would be seen as a good result but Carrick will be hoping to begin the post-Solskjaer era with a victory to all but seal qualification to the next round.

The 40-year-old took training for the first time on Monday as he prepares his side for the crucial game at El Madrigal.
