Diogo Dalot has no plans to leave Manchester United, amid speculation over a return to Italy after impressing at AC Milan last term.
Dalot, 22, joined United in 2018 when Jose Mourinho stated he was one of the best up and coming full-backs in Europe. Italian outlet Calciomercato ran a story this week suggesting Mourinho wanted a reunion with his fellow compatriot.
It is claimed that Roma would like to sign Dalot on loan in January, with the option to sign him on a permanent deal at the end of the campaign.
United don’t have any cover at right-back, so it’s not a deal I think the club are likely to accept any approach. Not mid season unless they can somehow manage to strike a deal with Atletico Madrid for Kieran Trippier, who was previously tracked as a target by the club (via Manchester Evening News).
However, Caught Offside understands that the Dalot’s preference is to remain at Old Trafford. A source close to the club also gave a quote issuing their firm stance on Dalot.
“The idea is for him to stay,” one source told Caught Offside. “Diogo is going to stay at United.”
With just 18-months left on his current deal it may be time to decide on what the future holds for the Portugal international.
He can hardly get a look in with Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back every week, which is a worry for a player who is clearly better in the final third.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has enough passengers in defence, too.
