Wayne Rooney’s son Kai scored four goals in an under-12’s match against Liverpool over the weekend.
The 11-year-old joined Manchester United’s respected academy in December 2022 and has had a big impact in front of goal.
Sadly, Kai’s four goals weren’t enough at the weekend as Liverpool won 5-4, but I’m sure he will be proud of his individual performance – as will his father.
Wayne Rooney holds the record for most goals scored (253) as a United player, which he achieved in 559 appearances after signing from Everton in 2004.
Manchester United has always been keen on nurturing homegrown talent – and they had to dig into the pockets to take Wazza away from Goodison Park. Hopefully Kai continues to develop and we won’t need to worry about signing him from elsewhere later in his career.
Will Kai go on to become a first team star like his father was?
We certainly hope so but now it’s about the kid enjoying himself on the pitch and learning the game.
