UEFA’s ridiculous call to extend Wan-Bissaka’s ban is unfair – opinion

Bad news for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Manchester United.

The Red Devils will be without their first choice right-back for the next two Champions League matches, after initially accepting that Wan-Bissaka would be missing only for tonight’s tie against Villarreal.

Wan-Bissaka received a straight red card in the 35th minute of United’s shock 2-1 defeat earlier this month in our Champions League opener.

Sadly, the full-back’s mandatory one-match suspension has been increased for “rough play”, meaning Wan-Bissaka also misses next month’s home clash with Atalanta.

United will also be without skipper Harry Maguire tonight, with Victor Lindelof expected to slot in alongside Raphael Varane at the heart of defence.

Nobody can argue the decision to send off Wan-Bissaka for his late challenge against Young Boys, however, after seeing Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne put in a similar foul on PSG’s Idrissa Gueye last night — only to receive a yellow card — makes this decision feel unjustified.

Surely a near-identical challenge should result in the same consequences?

But no, De Bruyne gets no ban. What a joke.
