Preview: Manchester United vs Villarreal | Champions League

Manchester United will be looking at getting back to winning ways when they face Villarreal in the UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

The Reds go into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League whilst the visitors drew 0-0 with Real Madrid in La Liga.

Cristiano Ronaldo is once again expected to lead the Reds attack against Villarreal whilst Donny Van De Beek could be handed a rare start as he battles to win a place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s line-up.

Having lost the opening game in Group F against Young Boys, it’s crucial that United get three points here against Villarreal on Wednesday night. Already trailing the chasing pack in the group and with Atalanta still to come United cannot afford to drop any more points should they wish to qualify and in facing Villarreal it gives the Reds a perfect chance to get back on track but it wont be easy.

Villarreal are no mugs and having faced the Reds last season in the Europa League final, Solskjaer will be fully aware just how difficult of a side the La Liga side are to play against. Games against Villarreal in the past have never been very high scoring and you get the feeling that just a single goal could be enough to win the game this time round.

An early goal in many respects could also go a long way to deciding this one too and If United can grab one it would completely change the outlook of the game and would force the Spanish side out to play leaving holes at the back for Ronaldo, Fernandes and co to take full advantage of.

It wont be easy and I expect it will be tight but I think United will beat Villarreal here albeit it will be close.

Prediction: Manchester United 1-0 Villarreal
