(Video) Bruno Fernandes blasts 93rd-minute penalty over the bar

Manchester United are back in action in the Premier League following the disappointment of being knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of West Ham.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side was arguably the better side but to no avail, as the Hammers progressed to the next round of the tournament.

The Norwegian boss made 11 changes to his side for the visit of Aston Villa, with Ronaldo, Fernandes, and Pogba among those to return to the side.

Jesse Lingard’s match-winning performance against West Ham last weekend was not enough to earn him a starting place as in-form Mason Greenwood regains his place.

Manchester United started the game as the better side and came close to finding the breakthrough on numerous occasions but the sides went into half-time level.

The visitors came back out after the interval as the better side and eventually made their dominance pay as they took the lead in the 88th minute through a corner.

The drama was far from over as Manchester United were awarded a penalty straight afterward but Bruno Fernandes’ wayward effort, as seen above, means that Solskjaer and his side suffer their first defeat of the season. It was an uncharacteristic effort from Fernandes, who had missed just one attempt from 12 yards previously for United.

Dean Smith’s side held on for a victory despite the dramatic ending, their first win over Manchester United since 2009.
